Israel will reopen the Rafah border crossing on Sunday for people to travel between Gaza and Egypt, the Israeli government agency that coordinates civilian policy in Gaza, COGAT, said on Friday.

The last Israeli captive recovered from Gaza was buried on Wednesday at a funeral attended by hundreds of mourners which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said ended a "painful" chapter in Israel's history.

Israel on Wednesday laid to rest the last hostage from Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned at the funeral that the country's enemies would pay a heavy price for any future aggression.

The next step is likely to be the reopening of Gaza’s border with Egypt, enabling Palestinians to travel in both directions and eventually allowing more aid to enter the territory devastated by two years of war.
